Basketball Game Preview: Olentangy Braves vs. Westerville Central Warhawks

Olentangy hasn't had much luck against Westerville Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Olentangy Braves will head out to square off against the Westerville Central Warhawks at 7:30 p.m. Olentangy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.

Last Friday, everything went Olentangy's way against Olentangy Berlin as Olentangy made off with a 72-52 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-19.

Olentangy found their leader in sophomore Ty Walburn, who made all 6 shots he took from beyond the arc to post 18 points. Carter Hire was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 17 points.

Meanwhile, Westerville Central posted their closest victory since March 6, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Linsly 53-50. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warhawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 325th in Ohio, while the Cadets are ranked 22nd in West Virginia).

Westerville Central's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9. As for Olentangy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Olentangy came up short against Westerville Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 76-72. Can Olentangy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
