Volleyball Recap: Torrey Pines Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Torrey Pines couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the Newport Harbor Sailors on Tuesday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since April 22nd.

While Torrey Pines was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-23, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Torrey Pines still got an impressive performance from Griffin Dieter, who had 23 digs and two assists. Dieter is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games he's played.

Torrey Pines' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 33-9. As for Newport Harbor, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-11 record this season.

Torrey Pines does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newport Harbor, they will take on Mira Costa at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Sailors surely won't give up without a fight.
