Basketball Recap: Winfield Drops Season-High Score on Lincoln County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winfield). They claimed a resounding 97-61 victory over the Lincoln County Panthers. Winning may never get old, but the Generals sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Lincoln County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Smith, who went 7 for 14 en route to 17 points. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Drew Banks was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Winfield is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for Lincoln County, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winfield will welcome Chapmanville Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Winfield has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lincoln County, they will be playing at home against Cabell Midland at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
