Softball Recap: Haywood Tomcats vs. Lakeland Preparatory Lions
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Milan, Haywood was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lakeland Preparatory Lions a 10-0 shutout. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tomcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Lillian Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Scott was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Samiah Johnson was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Rylee Rimmer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland Preparatory only posted an OBP of .136.
The victory got Haywood back to even at 1-1. As for Lakeland Preparatory, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Haywood will take on Lake County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeland Preparatory will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fayette Ware at 5:30 p.m. on March 25th.
