Softball Recap: Unioto Victorious

Piketon typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Unioto proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Redstreaks 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Shermans.

Unioto got a great performance from Kendal Walker as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Welch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Tuttle, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Unioto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 8-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Unioto's record is now 10-8. As for Piketon, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-2.

Coincidentally, Unioto and Piketon will both be playing Southeastern the next time they take the field. The Redstreaks will host the Panthers at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Shermans will host them at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
