Baseball Recap: Aquilla Has No Trouble Against Gholson

Aquilla had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Gholson on Tuesday. The Cougars put the hurt on Gholson with a sharp 10-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with Gholson: they've now won five in a row.

Andrew Snipes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Aquilla got a massive performance out of Zane Booth, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Booth has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mason Cockrell, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Aquilla's record is now 11-8. As for Gholson, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Aquilla will square off against Oglesby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. Gholson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
