Baseball Game Preview: Aztec Tigers vs. Kirtland Central Broncos

The Aztec Tigers will be taking part in a tournament against the Kirtland Central Broncos at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Aztec is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand North Summit a 16-0 shutout on Saturday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Tyler Ray made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Aztec's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Cadin Anderson was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Dalton Wilmer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Aztec was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Kirtland Central was able to grind out a solid win over Taos on Tuesday, taking the game 10-7.

Kirtland Central's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Aztec, they moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
