Mason waltzed into their match on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Waverly Warriors an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Colton McCaleb made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Joey Schild was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Hendrickson, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.
Mason pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Waverly, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-8.
