Basketball Recap: Battle Mountain Triumphs

After losing to West Wendover the last time they met, Battle Mountain decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Battle Mountain Longhorns pulled ahead with a 38-37 photo finish over the West Wendover Wolverines on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Battle Mountain was led to victory by Noel Hill and Paitynn Johns. Hill went 12 for 23 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, while Johns posted seven points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Johns a new career-high in assists (four).

Battle Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Battle Mountain's record now sits at 9-2. As for West Wendover, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Silver Stage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Wendover, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Sierra Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Wendover is facing Sierra Lutheran at the right time seeing as Sierra Lutheran is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
