Recap: Amplus Academy Archers vs. Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles
The Amplus Academy Archers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 70-26 loss at the hands of Somerset Sky Pointe. Amplus Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Somerset Sky Pointe apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Amplus Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DaJon McGinnes, who scored seven points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McGinnes has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Falna Ahferom, who scored six points.
Leading Somerset Sky Pointe to victory were Dylan Oblad and Ja'Cory Gory. Oblad dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Gory scored 20 points. The match was Gory's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carter Prater, who scored nine points.
Amplus Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amplus Academy will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Sierra Vista at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th. Sierra Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Amplus Academy likes a good challenge. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, they will head out on the road to face off against Somerset Academy Losee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Somerset Academy Losee is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 64.8 points per game.
