Basketball Game Preview: Alcovy Tigers vs. Jackson County Panthers

Two weeks ago, Alcovy lost to Union Grove on the road by a 59-44 margin. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while the Wolverines are ranked 105th).

The losing side was boosted by Janae Hutcherson, who posted 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Simaria Wilburn, who had five points along with six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Alcovy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jackson County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They escaped with a win on Friday against Winder-Barrow by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43.

Alcovy now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Jackson County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
