Baseball Recap: West Scranton Takes a Loss

West Scranton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Old Forge on Sunday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 6-4. The Invaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Tyler Scotch was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, West Scranton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anderson Hidalgo, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Those two hits gave Hidalgo a new career-high. Another was Jason Selemba, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

West Scranton's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Old Forge, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

West Scranton and Old Forge will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. West Scranton will face off against rival Wallenpaupack Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Old Forge is set to challenge their familiar foe Mid Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
