Basketball Recap: Montgomery Central Comes Up Short

Montgomery Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy Eagles, falling 91-56.

Despite the defeat, Montgomery Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Christopher Curtis posted 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Curtis. Boston Britt was another key player, putting up eight points.

Montgomery Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, they moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Montgomery Central and Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Montgomery Central (ranked 635th) will meet Southern Lee (ranked 45th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery Central has given up an average of 80.1 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy (ranked 594th) will meet Quality Education Academy (ranked 101st) at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
