Baseball Game Preview: Minnetonka Skippers vs. Waconia Wildcats

Minnetonka is 6-1 against Waconia since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Skippers will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Minnetonka will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Minnetonka had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Edina on Saturday. The Skippers put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 8-1 victory. That seven run margin sets a new team best for the Skippers this season.

Jack Butterworth tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garrett Wheeler was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gus Berger, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Waconia scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 9-6 to New Prague. The Wildcats have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Minnetonka pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average this season. As for Waconia, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
