Basketball Recap: Upland Piles Up the Points Against Waterford

Upland's tournament run continued when they took on Waterford on Friday. The Upland Highlanders/Scots simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Waterford Ravens 63-22. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Highlanders/Scots' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 582nd in California, while the Ravens are ranked 94th in Utah).

When it comes to explaining why Waterford lost, don't look at Preston Jenkins. Despite the final result, he posted eight points. That was a full 36.4% of Waterford's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Walkingshaw, who earned five points.

Upland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Waterford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Upland will face off against Rancho Cucamonga at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Waterford, they and Spring Mountain will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
