Basketball Recap: Coyrick Cheek Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greater Vision Academy over Woodland Baptist Christian

After flying high against Mount Calvary Christian on Monday, Greater Vision Academy came back down to earth. The Lions took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woodland Baptist Christian Eagles on Tuesday. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 57-51 to the Eagles when the teams met back in November of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greater Vision Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Coyrick Cheek Jr, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 15 points and four steals. Cheek Jr has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ari Love, who posted ten points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Greater Vision Academy's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Woodland Baptist Christian, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

Coming up, Greater Vision Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Winston Salem Christian Silver at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greater Vision Academy's defense better be ready for this one: Winston Salem Christian Silver has averaged an impressive 56 points per game this season. As for Woodland Baptist Christian, they will welcome Shining Light Baptist Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
