Softball Game Preview: Mountain Ridge Sentinels vs. Riverton Silverwolves

Mountain Ridge is 2-8 against Riverton since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Sentinels will square off against the Silverwolves at 3:30 p.m.

Mountain Ridge managed to slip by Herriman the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Sentinels lost 9-3 to the Mustangs on Tuesday.

Mountain Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Dansie, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Riverton faced Westlake in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Silverwolves were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Thunder. The result was nothing new for the Silverwolves, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Riverton also got a great performance from Lindsey Strieby as she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Strieby a new career-high.

Riverton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only posted an OBP of .323.

Riverton's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mountain Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Mountain Ridge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Riverton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Mountain Ridge suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Riverton in their previous meeting on Thursday. Can the Sentinels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
