Mater Dei waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Salem Wildcats by a score of 55-43. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Wildcats are ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Gavin Peppenhorst, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Luke Brefeld was another key player, going 7 for 10 to rack up 16 points.

Mater Dei was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salem only racked up eight assists.

Despite the loss, Salem still got an impressive performance from Noah Nix, who went 6 of 10 en route to 19 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryegan Warren, who posted six points.

Mater Dei's record now sits at 19-8. As for Salem, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-19.

Mater Dei didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-34 defeat against Breese Central on the 7th. As for Salem, they have also already played their next contest, a 57-51 loss against Freeburg on the 7th.
