Hanover (Kansas) wins first state title via a first-year player who made her first basket of the game — at the horn.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try, try, try and try again.

That was the attitude of Hanover (Kan.) freshman Tianna Lohse, who made her first 3-pointer of the game — at the buzzer after six misses — in a 50-47 win over Olpe in the Kansas Class 1A state title game Saturday in Hays.

Lohse's first make coincided with Hanover's first state title.

"I had no idea (it was going in)," Lohse told Topeka Capital-Journal reporter Nick Schwien after the game. "I was just hoping to get it and shoot it."

She did and it made coach Chris Beikmann look good. He was exalting Lohse to keep shooting even after her cold start. He said Lohse was one of the team's best long-range shooters all season.

She finished with just four points, while teammate Macy Doebele led the way with 14 points and Ashton Jueneman had 12 points.
