Football Recap: Stratford Comes Up Short

Stratford fell victim to Newtown and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Nighthawks 55-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Devils in their meetings with the Nighthawks: they've now lost nine in a row.

Blake Merfalen threw for 123 yards on 12 of 30 attempts. Shaboz Henry was his top target, picking up 76 receiving yards.

Luke Gagnon was a one-man wrecking crew For Newtown. as he rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Stockwell, who rushed for 67 yards and one TD.

Stratford's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Newtown, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.

Stratford and Newtown will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Red Devils see the field they'll take on New Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Newtown, their break will end when they face Bunnell at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
