Football Game Preview: Capuchino Mustangs vs. Burlingame Panthers

The Capuchino Mustangs will head out to challenge the Burlingame Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Capuchino took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 35-28 victory over Mountain View. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Burlingame's strategy against Carlmont on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Panthers blew the Scots out of the water with a 34-0 final score. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Burlingame's win came from a few key players Capuchino will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nick Armstrong, who threw for 151 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 90% of his passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Burlingame's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Nathaniel Ordonez also helped with three touchdowns in total.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Burlingame's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Ravi Krishnan was the leader with two.

Burlingame's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.3 points on average over those games. As for Capuchino, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-5.

Capuchino strolled past Burlingame in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 21-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
