Basketball Recap: Pierce Comes Up Short

Pierce fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Cedar Catholic on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Cedar Catholic Trojans. The Bluejays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Cedar Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Walter out in front who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anisten Wortmann, who posted 12 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Pierce's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Cedar Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Pierce will square off against Norfolk Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pierce is facing Norfolk Catholic at the right time seeing as Norfolk Catholic is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cedar Catholic, they will challenge St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Cedar Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
