Basketball Recap: Gig Harbor Takes a Loss

Gig Harbor lost against Bellarmine Prep back in June of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Gig Harbor Tides were beaten by the Bellarmine Prep Lions 64-32. The Tides were down 51-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Gig Harbor saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Willow Bonnici dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonnici has scored all season.

Bellarmine Prep found their leader in sophomore Kyla Frazier, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 20 points and five steals. Frazier's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Flynn, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Gig Harbor's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Bellarmine Prep, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Gig Harbor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-44 defeat against Palm Beach Gardens on the 27th. As for Bellarmine Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-12 victory against Mount Tahoma on the 21st.
