Moriarty is 1-9 against Los Alamos since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pintos will welcome the Hilltoppers at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moriarty's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Taos with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pintos.
Moriarty got a massive performance out of Sienna Rios, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Shae Rios, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sienna wasn't the only one making solid contact: Moriarty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taos only managed two hits.
Meanwhile, Los Alamos had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They blew past the Elks/Elkettes 20-8. Surprisingly, this marked the sixth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Malaya Haynes made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Haynes was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Chavez and Reyana Naranjo did most of the damage at the plate: Chavez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI, while Naranjo scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those four runs gave Chavez a new career-high. Kohynn Young was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Moriarty's win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Los Alamos, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Moriarty has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Los Alamos struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
