Basketball Recap: Avon's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

North Central came into Saturday's contest looking for another win against Avon, but Aniah Smith wouldn't allow it. The Avon Orioles put the hurt on the North Central Panthers with a sharp 78-55 victory on Saturday thanks in part to Smith, who went 9 of 17 on her way to 26 points and five steals. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Makaylee Butts, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2023.

With the win, Avon broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-7. As for North Central, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will be taking part in a tournament against Brownsburg at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for North Central, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ben Davis at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
