Softball Recap: Fleming County Comes Up Short

Fleming County extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Rowan County Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since March 24th.

As for Rowan County, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Considering they have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Rowan County's part, Kassi Perkins spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up eight Ks. Perkins has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kelbie Ford was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Diamond Wills, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Fleming County will take on Russell in a tournament on Saturday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.93 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rowan County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Greenup County at 6:00 p.m. The Musketeers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
