Basketball Recap: Jefferson Christian Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Cross last Friday, Jefferson Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Jefferson Christian Academy Cardinals were dealt a 66-39 loss at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 147th in Virginia, while the Mavericks are ranked 19th in West Virginia).

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson Christian Academy lost, don't look at Abby Reed. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 11 en route to 19 points. Reed is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

James Monroe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Dunlap, who went 8 for 17 on her way to 19 points along with seven assists and five steals. That's the most steals Dunlap has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Boroski, who went 8 of 17 en route to 18 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Jefferson Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for James Monroe, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.

Jefferson Christian Academy will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Patrick Henry at 7:00 p.m. As for James Monroe, they will head out on the road to take on Summers County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
