Basketball Recap: Brinley Funderburk's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mortimer Jordan over Albertville

Mortimer Jordan suffered their biggest loss since November 14, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against the Albertville Aggies, falling 72-51. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Aggies from their previous meeting back in December of 2018.

Mortimer Jordan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brinley Funderburk, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. Those five rebounds gave Funderburk a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mattie Machen, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Lani Smallwood continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Albertville, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was Smallwood's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Mylie Butler was another key player, going 6 of 15 on her way to 21 points.

Mortimer Jordan's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Albertville, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-3.

Mortimer Jordan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 64-30 victory against Jasper on the 14th. As for Albertville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-51 win against Guntersville on the 13th.
