Baseball Game Preview: Maple Heights Mustangs vs. Cornerstone Christian Patriots

Maple Heights is on a three-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Cornerstone Christian is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mustangs will welcome the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Maple Heights is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Warrensville Heights on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Lashaun Carr was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Carr was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Maple Heights got a massive performance out of Marvin Wolfe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Wolfe also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Kevin Moore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Maple Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Cornerstone Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Richmond Heights on Monday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over the Spartans. The matchup marked the Patriots' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Maple Heights' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2-1. As for Cornerstone Christian, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Maple Heights took their win against Cornerstone Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
