Soccer Game Preview: Poteet vs. West Mesquite

For the first time this season, Poteet will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the West Mesquite Wranglers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Poteet managed to keep up with Longview until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Pirates came up short against the Lobos, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, Poteet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Longview are ranked 98th).

Meanwhile, West Mesquite won against Terrell on Saturday with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. The Wranglers had just enough and edged out Lovejoy 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for West Mesquite.

Poteet has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4-1 record this season. As for West Mesquite, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0-3.

Poteet skirted past West Mesquite 2-1 in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wranglers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
