Baseball Recap: Southwestern Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Southwestern waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Rising Sun Shiners by a score of 5-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-4 back in April.

Jeter Chatham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Austin Jenkins was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Southwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Southwestern pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Rising Sun, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Southwestern will venture away from home to face off against Jac-Cen-Del at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Rising Sun, they will host Lawrenceburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
