League recap: Kennedy win leads to rise in state rank

Kennedy moved up to 175 from 207 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A Region 3. The Hornets were able to make move up by defeating Broad Street 31-6.

Kennedy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Jaguars, 31-6. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Ladaris Johnson and Eugene Pruitt gave the Hornets a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Johnson threw for 99 yards and one touchdown, while Pruitt ran for 111 yards. Teammate Carnez Gant added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.

Ethan Goodwin was the best wideout in the league this week as Strayhorn beat Coahoma County. Goodwin tallied four receptions for 71 yards. Dee Brown helped Strayhorn's passing attack out by catching two balls for 11 yards.

5-foot-8 quarterback Johnson of Kennedy is the league leader in passing yards this season with 521. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Mustangs' Greg Caston has rushed for 1262 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ladarious Walker. The Broad Street star has 16 catches for 357 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Strayhorn takes on Broad Street. Thomas Skinner's team is currently in first, while Damaris Mitchell's team is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Mustangs take on the Jaguars. Strayhorn has allowed 102 points this season, while Broad Street has given up 120. The Mustangs allowed 0 points last week as they bested the Panthers.

Strayhorn took down Coahoma County 29-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caston ran for 75 yards in the win.
