Basketball Recap: Owen Schafer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wando over Socastee

Wando lost against Socastee last Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wando Warriors came up short against the Socastee Braves, falling 64-44. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Braves are ranked 23rd).

Wando lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Owen Schafer, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tait Horine, who put up 14 points.

Bryson Sams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Socastee, going 11 of 16 on his way to 32 points and six rebounds. Sams has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joshua Brown, who dropped a double-double on ten rebounds and ten assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Wando and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Socastee, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wando won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bishop England at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bishop England's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Socastee, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Cane Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cane Bay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.6 points per game this season.
