Baseball Game Preview: Custer County Bobcats vs. La Veta Redhawks

The Custer County Bobcats are taking a road trip to take on the La Veta Redhawks at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Custer County has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Custer County is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Elbert just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 14-8.

Wade Pierce made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Colt Moulton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

La Veta couldn't beat Peyton on Wednesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Redhawks fell 12-7 to the Panthers. Like the Bobcats, the Redhawks also had to let a streak go: they had won three straight, but that streak is no more.

Logan Cortez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lukas Ozzello, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Custer County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for La Veta, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Custer County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .678. However, it's not like La Veta struggles in that department as they've averaged .521. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Custer County suffered a grim 17-7 defeat to La Veta in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
