Basketball Recap: Mellen Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mellen won the last time they faced Bayfield and things went their way on Monday too. The Mellen Granite Diggers walked away with a 70-58 win over the Bayfield Trollers. While the Granite Diggers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Maxwell Gordon, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 20 boards. With that strong performance, Gordon is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Quintin Bresette was another key player, putting up 13 points along with eight assists and seven boards.

The victory (which was Mellen's third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. As for Bayfield, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Mellen and Bayfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. Mellen (ranked 181st) will meet Mercer (ranked 484th) at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Bayfield (ranked 216th) will meet Butternut (ranked 491st) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
