 With a playoff game on the line, La Salle Academy rose to the challenge  on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cumberland Clippers with a sharp  8-2 win. Considering La Salle Academy has won eight matches by more than five  runs this season, Friday's  blowout was nothing new.
  Cameron Caprio tossed a big game,   pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off   six  hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Thomas Malloy was  excellent,  scoring a  run while  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of  Ed Walsh, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 The  victory  made it two in a row for La Salle Academy and  bumps their season record up to 14-10. As for Cumberland,  this is  the second loss in a row for them and  nudges their season record down to 14-7.
 La Salle Academy is on the road again  on Sunday to play South Kingstown at 4:00  p.m. La Salle Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5  runs per game  this season, so South Kingstown's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Cumberland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
