Baseball Game Preview: Chincoteague Ponies vs. Bennett Clippers

The Chincoteague Ponies will head out to face off against the Bennett Clippers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Chincoteague has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Thursday, Chincoteague earned a 16-12 win over Wicomico. The victory continues a trend for the Ponies in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.

Kent Reed made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Reed was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

Reed wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brice Luck, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those runs were Luck's first of the season. George Katsetos was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Chincoteague kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wicomico only managed seven hits.

Bennett never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wicomico last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Indians.

Bennett's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2. As for Chincoteague, their record is now 3-1-1.
