Baseball Recap: Eleanor Roosevelt Extends Winning Streak to Three

Eleanor Roosevelt extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 12-7 in the process. They never let the Laurel Spartans get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Raiders have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Cannon Knight made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Eleanor Roosevelt: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Juan Nu?ez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Eleanor Roosevelt is 7-1 when Nu?ez posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of John Burke, who earned two RBI, one run, and three stolen bases.

As for Laurel, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Laurel's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Gilchrist, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Gilchrist has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Looking ahead, Eleanor Roosevelt will look to defend their home field on Monday against Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. The Raiders are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Laurel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
