Softball Game Preview: Farmington Farmers vs. Mercer County Golden Eagles

Farmington is 0-3 against Mercer County since April of 2023 but things could change on Monday. Farmington will head out to challenge Mercer County at 4:30 p.m.

Farmington saw some tournament action on Thursday. They lost 11-4 to Gibson Southern. The Farmers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Mercer County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Alleman. Eight seems to be a good number for the Golden Eagles as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Elsie Cook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Payton Ruggles and Peyton Knapp did most of the damage at the plate: Ruggles scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Knapp scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Weeks, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Mercer County's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Farmington, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Farmington came up short against Mercer County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Farmington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
