Basketball Recap: Deacon Showalter Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Republic County

Lyons can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 53-32 margin over the Republic County Buffaloes. The Lions pushed the score to 48-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Buffaloes cut but never quite recovered from.

Lyons got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Deacon Showalter out in front who went 5 of 9 en route to 13 points and six rebounds. Showalter has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Luck, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points.

Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Lyons' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Republic County, their loss was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Lyons will be playing at home against Kingman on Tuesday. As for Republic County, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Southeast of Saline at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th.
