Basketball Game Preview: Woodson Cavaliers vs. Lake Braddock Bruins

The Woodson Cavaliers will head out to face off against the Lake Braddock Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Woodson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.

Woodson is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Alexandria City: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Woodson blew Alexandria City out of the water with a 71-37 final score. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Emma Komaily, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven steals and five assists. Those 18 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tazzy Alvarez, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Lake Braddock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. 2025 welcomed they with a 57-31 loss courtesy of Oakton. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Cougars are ranked 14th).

Woodson pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Lake Braddock, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Woodson beat Lake Braddock 52-42 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Does Woodson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Braddock turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
