Softball Recap: Jamestown Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Poquoson, Jamestown was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Lafayette Rams. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Grace Hughes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jamestown got a massive performance out of Ava Cramer, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that Cramer has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Zoe Mayes, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Jamestown's record is now 5-9. As for Lafayette, they are on a 37-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jamestown will square off against Warhill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lafayette, they will take on York at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
