Recap: Lowndes Academy Rebels vs. Southern Academy Cougars
The Lowndes Academy Rebels are still winless after their matchup against the Southern Academy Cougars on Saturday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. Lowndes Academy fell just short of Southern Academy by a score of 31-28. While losing is never fun, Lowndes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Southern Academy is ranked 70th).
Southern Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalee Newton, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeline Chapman, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Lowndes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Southern Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lowndes Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sparta Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Sparta Academy's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Lowndes Academy's offense will have their work cut out for Lowndes Academy. Southern Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Morgan Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
