Recap: Highland Huskies vs. Thornton Trojans

The Highland Huskies came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Thornton with points to spare, taking the game 75-60. 75 seems to be a good number for Highland as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Sawyer Morgan was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Wares, who scored 21 points.

Despite the loss, Thornton still got an impressive performance from Clayton Jones, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Gerardo Cepeda, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.

Highland pushed their record up to 13-4 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.5 points per game. As for Thornton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Highland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Estes Park at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Highland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Estes Park likes a good challenge. As for Thornton, they will head out on the road to take on Aurora Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Thornton will be up against Aurora Central's rather soft defense (which has allowed 66.4 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
