Softball Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

Dayton had lost four straight on the road, but on Sunday they dropped their record down to 6-15 to make it five. They came up short against the Highlands Bluebirds, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Greendevils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Highlands, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 22 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

For Highlands' part, Kaitlyn Dixon was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Dixon has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alli Meyers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Pompilio, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As of now, neither Dayton nor Highlands have any future games scheduled.
