Preview: Riverside Chargers vs. Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack
Riverside has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Riverside Chargers and the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Riverside has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last seven games.
Riverside scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Twin Loup 73-43 at home. With that win, Riverside brought their scoring average up to 50.9 points per game.
Dane Schalk continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Drew Carraher, who scored 13 points.
Elgin/Pope John has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 32 points or more this season. They really took it to Creighton for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-42 victory on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-22.
Riverside is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for Elgin/Pope John, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Riverside lost to Elgin/Pope John on the road by a decisive 46-32 margin when the teams last played back in November. Can Riverside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
