Softball Recap: Fairfield's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Fairfield had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Rilee Quickle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Quickle was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Carly Sanders was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Jobey Hattan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Fairfield's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for Lynchburg-Clay, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Fairfield will take on rival Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.6, the Greyhounds 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lynchburg-Clay is set to challenge their familiar foe Fayetteville-Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
