Volleyball Recap: South El Monte Comes Up Short

South El Monte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Rosemead Panthers, falling 3-0. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-8.

Christian Madrid paced South El Monte's offense, picking up three kills. Madrid got some help from Johnson Phan and his five assists. Finally, Christopher Rodriguez kept South El Monte's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Rosemead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vuong Andy Pham led the charge by getting 17 digs and one assist. Pham is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last six games he's played.

South El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Rosemead, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

South El Monte has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Gabrielino on the 24th. As for Rosemead, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against El Monte on the 24th.
