Baseball Recap: Hammond's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Hammond had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out the St. John Eagles 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tornadoes have posted since March 14th.

John Austin Bender was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Harland, who scored two runs and stole three bases.

Hammond's victory bumped their record up to 5-21. As for St. John, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-8.

Coming up, Hammond will challenge Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. John, they will square off against Ascension Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
