Softball Game Preview: Tulia Hornets vs. River Road Wildcats

Tulia is 0-10 against River Road since April of 2017 but things could change on Friday. Tulia will head out to face off against River Road at 4:30 p.m. Tulia has given up an average of 14.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tulia is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Monday. They lost 14-8 to Dalhart.

Meanwhile, River Road had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 14-9.

Carol Koval spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Sharp was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Ashlynn Ferris was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

River Road was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bushland only posted a batting average of .345.

River Road pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Tulia, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Tulia might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from River Road in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Tulia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
